Sometimes a lame slogan...
...is all you have. President Bush unveiled his new campaign catchphrase today: "We've turned a corner, and we're not turning back".
When there isn't much to run on from your first 3 1/2 years in office, I suppose turning a corner is something that you might want to hype. But if the economy has turned a corner, it might just be turning a corner straight into an oncoming truck, as these economic indicators that popped up today show:
* The deficit will be a record $440+ billion, the largest in history;
* Crude oil hit a record high of $43.80/barrel; and
* GDP for the second quarter was up an anemic 3%, much less than anticipated, and way less than the first quarter of this year.
Something tells me he'll be turning a corner off Pennsylvania Avenue this coming January.
